Willett Investiture Ceremony honors Professor Elnashai
Amr S. Elnashai, Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the MAE Center, was recognized and honored as a recipient of the Donald Biggar Willett Professorship in Engineering at an Investiture Ceremony held on March 31, 2004 at the Beckman Institute.

Amr S. Elnashai, Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the MAE Center, was recognized and honored as a recipient of the Donald Biggar Willett Professorship in Engineering at an Investiture Ceremony held on March 31, 2004 at the Beckman Institute.
In 1994 the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois established the Willett Research Initiatives Fund. The gift from the late Mrs. Willett has been used to support scholarships, fellowships, research awards, and other activities. In December 1998, three Willett Professorships were established under this fund. The Willett Professorship is for a five-year, renewable term. Professor ElnashaiâÃÂÃÂs award was announced on June 19, 2003 by the Civil Engineering Department Head, Nicholas P. Jones.
Currently Professor Elnashai is the Director of the MAE Center after serving one year as acting director and two years as associate director with primary responsibility toward research coordination. Prior to joining the University of Illinois in 2001, he was a professor of earthquake engineering and head of the Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Section at Imperial College. He is a graduate of Cairo University and obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Imperial College, University of London.
