Junior Scientist Day, Yankee Ridge Elementary School

Yankee Ridge Elementary School PTA Science Committee, Urbana, IL, hosted a "Junior Scientist Day" on April 21, 2004. Kindergarten and first grade students learned about earthquakes in the New Madrid Seismic Zone from MAE Center graduate student Tracy Smith and education program specialist Sandra Menke. The children divided into teams and explored methods for making buildings safer while designing structures that were tested on the miniature shaketable.
