Bruce Ellingwood, MAE Center Investigator and UIUC Alumnus, Honored with ASCE Nathan M. Newmark Medal and AISC Lifetime Achievement Award

Bruce Ellingwood (UIUC M.S. 1969, Ph.D. 1972), College of Engineering Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, was presented with the Nathan M. Newmark Medal by the American Society of Civil Engineers at its recent ASCE/SEI 2006 Structures Congress in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Ellingwood was honored for his contributions to enhancing and incorporating probabilistic mechanics and structural reliability tools in code development and engineering practice.
Earlier this year, Dr. Ellingwood was presented with the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction for his research and sustained professional contributions in the development and implementation of probability-based codified structural design for steel buildings and other structures.
