On Monday, June 28, 2004 at 1:10 AM CDT, a 4.5 earthquake shook north central Illinois and was felt by residents of Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.

The earthquake was centered about 6 miles north east of Utica, IL, and about 72 miles south west of Chicago, IL.

A Wisconsin resident writes an email to the MAE Center about the earthquake. He states, "At about 1:20 AM Monday June 28, the house side slipped (felt like movement to the south) and shook the computer monitors and shelving. Brick Walls made a cracking sound. Nothing fell. Must be about 2.0 on the ricky scale. Duration of motion was only a couple seconds." He also writes, "I was in Taiwan for some of their 5's and this was probably about a 1-2 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Can you confirm? I didn't expect one here."
