Researc Assistants Symposium 2002

The 2002 Research Assistants Symposium, Earthquake Hazard: Source to Site, was held in Memphis, TN, November 22-25, in conjunction with the MAE Center Annual Meeting. A new student orientation, conducted by MAE Center Director Dan Abrams and Associate Director Amr Elnashai, initiated the event. The Student Leadership Council chair and vice-chairperson presented a SLC review, followed by student presentations. A poster session was scheduled with poster abstracts included in the Annual Meeting and RA Symposium notebook. The Best Poster award went to Graduate Research Assistants Leonardo Due󱡳Osorio, Peeranan Towashiraporn, and Gaurav Chawla from Georgia Institute of Technology working on the DS-5: Seismic Response Simulation Across Regions.
David Simpson, President of Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology gave the keynote talk, Earthscope – Exploring the Structure and Dynamics of North America. The symposium concluded with a field trip to Imbsen and Associates, Inc. with John Felkins, Bridge Engineer and followed with an I-40 bridge retrofit site visit. The students then visited the National Civil Rights Museum and a tour of CERI with Gary Patterson.
