The Seismic Design of Diaphragms, Chords, and Collectors

This module will provide information concerning the seismic design of diaphragms. Diaphragms coupled with chords, and collectors are used to transmit the distributed inertial forces to the lateral load carrying elements such as shear walls, braced frames and moment resistant frames. The design requirements from codes such as the International Building Code for chord members, collectors (load accumulating elements), diaphragm and their connections will be presented. Diaphragm analysis and design examples for steel, concrete, wood and masonry structures will be presented.
