Business Inquiries

Minor earthquakes occur very frequently in the New Madrid Seismic Zone but it is only a matter of time before a major damaging quake occurs. Scientists estimate that there is 25-40% chance of a magnitude 6.0 and greater earthquake occurring in the next 50 years. If a strong New Madrid earthquake, with a magnitude equal to the historic 1812 earthquake (8.0), were to occur today it is estimated that it would cause tens to hundreds of billions of dollars in damage to the region.

Developing earthquake response and mitigation plans are the key to minimizing damage from an earthquake event. The Mid America Earthquake Center would like to help your business or organization better plan for and mitigate any potential earthquake effects resulting from the New Madrid Seismic Zone or other seismic zones in the Central and Eastern U.S.
