Research Assistants Symposium 2005
The 2005 Research Assistants Symposium, Integrated Risk Assessment and Mitigation, was held in Corla Gables, FL, February 24-26, 2005, in conjunction with the MAE Center Annual Meeting. A new student orientation, conducted by MAE Center Director Amr Elnashai, initiated the event. Student Leadership Council chairperson, Nick Burdette, presented a SLC review, followed by student presentations. Presenters included: Qingwen Miao, University of Memphis, The Frequency Dependent Path Function; Rolando Garcia Gonzalez, University of Puerto Rico, Wind Hazard Application of CBE; Seong-Hoon Jeong, University of Illinois, Parameterized Vulnerability Function; Steve Burns, Georgia Institute of Technology, The Need for Seismic Mitigation Measures: An Argument Analysis of the Tennessee IBC2003 Adoption Hearings; Divya Chandrasekhar, University of Illinois, Land Use Management in the Disaster Recovery Process; and Yang Zhang, Texas A&M University, Socio-Economic Perspective of the Earthquake Impact Assessment. A poster session was scheduled with poster abstracts included in the Annual Meeting and RA Symposium notebook. The Best Poster award was granted to John Barry, Ryan Hopeman, Nate Rende, and Joe Shields from the University of Illinois. Title of their poster was Seismic Evaluation of Semi-Rigid Connections Through Pseudodynamic Substructure Testing. Keith Chambers, IEMA Earthquake Coordinator, gave the keynote talk.
